ITINERARY SUMMARY: BAGAMOYO TOWN AND SAADANI NATIONAL PARK: 5Days/ 4Nights Safari.
Saadani National Park is located at the center of the historical triangle of Dar es Salaam, Pwani, and Tanga regions besides Zanzibar. Saadani National Park covers 1100km squares. It is the only wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania bordering the sea. The climate is coastal, hot, and humid. It offers a unique combination of both marine and mainland flora and fauna, in a culturally fascinating setting. About 30 species of larger mammals are present as well as numerous reptiles, birds, and many species of fish in the ocean nearby.
On the Reserve’s coast, green turtles come to the beaches to breed, during hutching time; black and white colobus monkeys frolic in the canopy of the evergreen Zaraninge Forest. Roosevelt sable antelope to have their home here.
Besides game drives, visitors can relax on the beach, or venture up to the Wami River by boat and see hippopotamus, with their counterparts crocodiles and flamingos.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL DAY
Arrive at the Julius Nyerere International Airport, Dar es Salaam. After airport clearance, you will meet our driver, who will drive you to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 2: BAGAMOYO HISTORICAL TOWN.
After breakfast at 07:30 am start your journey to Bagamoyo, a historical site that played various historical roles in Tanzania. Apart from being a slave and ivory port, it was also a German headquarters in 1891. Explorers such as Burton, Speke, Grant, Livingston, and Stanley all passed in this town.
Some of the historical remainings to be found are:
The Bagamoyo Church: It was built in 1868 and is considered to be the first church on the East Coast of Africa.Cemeteries; Early missionaries were buried there. A small shrine built by freed slaves in 1876 is all seen.
Between 1934 and 1991, 35 Dutch priests worked here. The last of this long line of priests from the Netherlands was Father Frits Versteijnen who stayed in Bagamoyo for 30 years and started a museum in the old Fathers’ House in March 1968.
The second Fathers’ House in Bagamoyo was constructed close to the Mother of all Churches in East Africa, was built in 1873, the first floor in 1877, and the second floor in 1903.
Bagamoyo Museum: It is a museum, which displays Bagamoyo history in relation to its contact with foreigners. It has old photographs, documents, and relics from the slave trade.
On the same compound, there is a small chapel known as the Anglican Church of the Holy Cross. The church is famous for being a place where the remains of David Livingstone were laid before being taken to Zanzibar en route to Westminster Abbey for burial.
Bomani: The German Colonial administration headquarters. Is a memorial site for the German East African Capital.
German Grave Yard: The historical place where the German soldiers were buried
Kaole ruins/remains: Kaole a 13th -18th Centuries AD settlement, are 5km south of Bagamoyo, with remaining structures of mosques, graves, and houses. These are among the archaeological -findings on the coast of Tanzania. These areas were used by Indians, Chinese, Arabs, Persians, and Europeans from as far back as the 7th century AD to the 18th Century AD. These settlements died after the abolition of the slave trade and invasion of European colonization/civilization.
Enjoy a full day historical tour around the historical monuments of Old Bagamoyo Town. Enjoy lunch in Bagamoyo Town. At 03:00 pm drive to Saadani National Park, arrive at Tanganyika Coastal Campsite for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3: SAADANI NATIONAL PARK
Enjoy an early morning game drive at the park return to the camp for morning breakfast, After breakfast departs for Boat Safari along the Wami river. Here you will have a chance to spot numerous unique bird species that surround the great Wami River, during the boat safari you will also have the chance to view aquatic wildlife such as Hippotatumus and the great African crocodiles at the full display of this exciting boat safari's timing will depend on the river tides: After the boat-safari enjoy a picnic lunch near the river banks while spotting some birds and aquatic animals passing by. After lunch continues with a salt farm visit, there you'll have the chance to see traditional salt extraction near the sea, Depending on the time of the year you'll have the chance of viewing various flamingoes nesting along the river bank.
At around 03:00 pm when the weather has cooled down a bit, you will go for an afternoon game drive/river cruising till 06:00 pm, you will drive back to Tanganyika Coastal Campsite and Lodge for dinner and overnight.
DAY 4: SAADANI NATIONAL PARK
At 6.00 am Early Morning you will go for an early morning game drive till morning break, After breakfast proceeds for a full day drive at Central Saadani enjoy the sight of various animals and vegetation along the way, Enjoy picnic lunch in the vast wilderness of Saadani after lunch continues toward the beach enjoy various beach activities as waiting for the majestic sunset along the Indian Ocean, at 06:00pm you will drive back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 5:DEPATURE
After breakfast at 7.30 am you will check out from Tanganyika Coastal Campsite and Saadani National Park and drive to Dar es Salaam for your onward journey.
